Guitar Lesson F.A.Q.s

Q: Do you teach acoustic or electric?
A: I have extensive experience teaching and playing both! Both have their plusses and minuses, and we can work together to find what’s right for you.

Q: I don’t have a guitar. Help!
A: No problem. I would be glad to guide you through the guitar-purchasing process.

Q: What ages do you teach? Am I too old/young?
A: I like to say 9 to 99, but I have experience teaching guitar to children ages 8 and up, and adults of all ages.

Q: How long are your lessons? Where do you teach them?
A: In general they are one hour long. You can come to my studio in Rockridge; or, for an additional travel fee, I can come to you.

Q: What does a typical lesson entail? Is there a book?
A: A typical lesson will include tuning, warm-ups, learning some techniques, and of course fun cover songs. I can also work with you to write your own songs. We can discuss what book is right for you depending on your level.

Q: How many years have you been playing and teaching?
A: I have been playing for 18 years now, teaching for 13.

Q: Do you do skill trades?
A: Maybe. Let’s discuss!

Q: I live in Mountain View. Will you come down here to teach my child?
A: I live in Oakland, so generally I am trying to stay in the East Bay for now.  However, I am open to Skype lessons for those who aren’t local.
